CIT WEEK:

CIT Campers will get to assist in making their own schedule. They’ll choose, plan, and carry out their overnight trip, and get to dip their toes into what life is like as a camp counselor. They’ll be able to talk more in depth about camp, life after high school, worships, and anything else. During their 2 weeks at camp, CIT program campers will participate in classes so that they leave with their CPR/AED/First Aid certification, as well as their Leave No Trace Level 1 Trainer certification (must be 18 to be certified).

The first week of CIT will focus on training to be a counselor, and planning their trip. They will leave camp Friday for their 2 night off site trip that they pick, plan, and prepare for. When they return Sunday, they will have a chance to unpack, wash clothes, and get reset for a week of assisting day camp counselors, our adventure director, our program director, and our executive director. They’ll lead prayers at meal times, lead games for day campers, and lead songs and skits around the campfire for overnight counselors. We hope that this 2 week experience shows them how much we appreciate them, and encourages them to consider becoming a counselor in the future!

Campers will stay out at our rustic campsite some, and also have a chance to stay at our Main Camp cabins. Rustic sites are open air cabins with enos inside, and a bathhouse nearby. Breakfasts and dinners are prepared and cooked by campers with counselor assistance over a fire. There is no electricity at rustic, so it’s a great time to truly unplug!

While we are trying to encourage independence during this week for our oldest campers, trained counselors will always be supervising!

Holston ROCKS!:

This brand new camp session is packed with adventure. While all campers will still get to participate in traditional Holston activities, like: kayaking, swimming, hiking, biking, zip lining, archery, team building, etc. this camp will focus on rock climbing! Holston ROCKS campers will take a trip to our local climbing gym in Boone, NC – Center 45 -about a 30 minute drive from camp. At Center 45, campers will participate in an educational course about rock climbing in Appalachia. They’ll hear about local climbs, different holds, and the legendary climbers that are right here in our community. After the class they’ll be able to climb! Campers will get to utilize our 2 rock faces on camp property, as well as several boulders around camp. Not only will Holston ROCKS! campers have the opportunity to climb at Center 45 and all over camp,  they will also get to climb a rock face at Lees-McRae College, and one offsite climb for their 2 night trip. The off site climb will be determined based on the skill level and ability that we see from campers during the first week. They will leave camp Friday for their 2 night off site trip and when they return Sunday, they will have a chance to unpack, wash clothes, and get reset for their second week.

After they return from their trip, the climbing still continues. Campers will work with our adventure director to identify routes on our rocks, and will learn how to belay other climbers. We will also have a guest speaker from Linville Area Rescue come talk to our climbers about they way they utilize climbing in their rescues. Linville Area Rescue will also talk with our climbers about the aspects and importance of safe climbing techniques.

Holston ROCKS! campers will stay at our Rustic Cabins as well as our Main Camp cabins.

Rustic sites are open air cabins with enos inside, and a bathhouse nearby. Breakfasts and dinners are prepared and cooked by campers with counselor assistance over a fire. There is no electricity at rustic, so it’s a great time to truly unplug!
