BEST CAMP EVER? YEP, WE THINK SO!
Since 1955, Holston has conducted an “experiment in an outdoor Christian community.” The goal is to offer youth the opportunity to seek God while building nurturing relationships and having fun outdoors. We encourage campers to “unplug” for the week and listen to the sounds of the wind in the trees, the mountain birds, and the rushing creek. It’s a time to make new friends, learn new activities and skills, and simply enjoy God’s creation.
We believe Holston Camp offers the perfect setting for youth to escape and “unplug” from the day-to-day world and be transformed in our mountain sanctuary during their time at summer camp. We offer overnight summer camp for small groups that live informally in simple cabins and participate in age-appropriate activities that are different from what can be done at home. Under supervision from trained staff, campers embark on a journey of mind, body, and spirit to learn about themselves, and how to relate to others and the environment in a responsible way. Kids make new friends, have fun, and learn important Christian values and traditions as they realize a greater purpose in their life. Morning worship and evening vespers are led by an ordained minister or elder. Campers are encouraged to think seriously about how we relate to others, the environment, and God. We discuss the teachings and examples provided by Jesus as a model for our own lives. Several generations have passed through our summer camps and many of them return to recall the life-changing experience they received here.

We recognize that your most precious possession is your child, so we make every effort to hire, train, and oversee a team of counselors who will provide a safe and joyful experience at Holston. Staff undergoes a thorough application and interview process that identifies positive morals and appropriate skills combined with a desire to provide leadership and exemplary Christian faith. Many of our counselors are former Holston campers who have returned to pass on their skills and experiences to others. Your child will reside in a cabin group led by two college-aged, counselors. Counselors are at least age 18 and have submitted to a background check in accordance with the Child Protection Policy of the Holston Presbytery and PC-USA. Staff train for 2 weeks in preparation for camp. We put special emphasis on staff training to ensure that they are prepared to deliver a safe, supportive, and compassionate experience to your children in a Christian environment. All staff are Red Cross First Aid/AED/CPR certified. All staff receive basic training in confronting and addressing children’s behavior and emotional issues. All staff comply with a code of ethics and behavior.
The Holston Presbytery and other local churches provide spiritual leadership to our campers. Each day, a minister leads morning worship and evening vespers. Bible study and conversation follows in a small group atmosphere. The point here is not necessarily to memorize scripture but to become aware of the grace and love inspired by Jesus Christ as we struggle to live in harmony with each other.
