As a summer camp counselor, you will collaborate with other college-aged peers to implement an enriching, small-group camping experience for a group of campers entering grades 1st-12th. For the past 65 years, HCRC has operated summer camp programs as an “experiment in Christian living.” Our tradition is one which seeks to connect people with God and Creation as we play, love, work, support, and grow together. All classic Holston Camp activities – which include hiking, rock-climbing, archery, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, zip-lines, crafts, campfires, bikes, and more – intentionally challenge, empower, and inspire participants and staff alike.
At HCRC, you will develop leadership, communication, critical-thinking, problem-solving, interpersonal, collaborative, adventure, and outdoor living skills. There are physical and emotional demands, long days, and challenging relationships, yet the rewards are bountiful and great. The experiences you have at camp will contribute to your personal, spiritual, and professional development. Plus, you will make memories and friendships to last a lifetime.
During a 10-day staff training period, you will learn not only how to safely facilitate all classic Holston Camp activities, but to guide them with intentionality and awareness. We will teach you how to facilitate small group Bible studies, respond to the holistic needs of campers, and manage camper behavior effectively and lovingly. HCRC will provide Red Cross CPR, first aid, and AED certification for all staff.
Lindsey, a 2020 counselor, says, “Holston has helped me become a more creative, positive, and loving person, and has helped me develop my love for the outdoors and teaching. Thanks to Holston, I have decided to be a teacher of the outdoors to children, who will be our future leaders in the world. I love being around creative kids who are just as excited about camp as I am. Seeing the campers have fun in nature is truly a happy feeling.”
If you are a compassionate young person interested in mentoring children in the outdoors, apply to work at HCRC today! As a summer camp staff member, you will receive competitive wages, room, and board in one of the most beautiful places in the southeast.
